BERLIN, GERMANY / RankWire.AI / – UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan met German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul in Berlin on Thursday. The talks focused on deeper UAE-Germany cooperation in economic and development sectors. They also covered regional and international developments, diplomacy, peace and international security. The meeting coincided with President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s state visit to Germany from September 9 to 11.
Both ministers examined ways to expand the strategic partnership and advance cooperation across several fields. Sheikh Abdullah described UAE-Germany relations as strong and resilient, with cooperation continuing to develop. He also pointed to a shared commitment to build on previous achievements and support sustainable economic prosperity. Wadephul and Sheikh Abdullah exchanged views on issues of common interest and approaches to resolving crises through diplomacy.
The wider state visit added new structure to the bilateral relationship. Germany’s Federal Government called it the first state visit to Germany by a UAE president. Sheikh Mohamed met Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and the two leaders announced a new Strategic Dialogue. The format covers security, defense, trade, investment, energy, climate, technology, digitalization, transport, environment, culture and education.
Strategic dialogue broadens bilateral cooperation
The two governments also backed plans for a German-UAE Investment Council to strengthen public and private sector engagement. They welcomed the resumption of the Joint Economic Committee and outcomes from a bilateral business forum. The visit produced 29 business agreements and memoranda valued at more than 9.356 billion euros, according to the joint declaration. A UAE investment package totaling 40 billion euros in Germany also formed part of the announcements.
Economic cooperation also extends to energy, advanced technology and digital infrastructure. The joint declaration highlighted existing and planned work involving LNG, renewable energy, hydrogen and energy efficiency. It also noted plans for advanced data centers with about one gigawatt of capacity. Both sides identified artificial intelligence and emerging technologies among the areas covered by their broader cooperation.
Foreign ministers focus on diplomacy and stability
The foreign ministers also reviewed regional and international developments during their Berlin talks. They discussed stronger international efforts to support lasting peace and stability and protect international security. The talks included the use of diplomacy to address crises, consistent with themes raised during the state visit. The German government had also listed Middle East peace and stability among the subjects for the leaders’ meetings.
Lana Zaki Nusseibeh, UAE Minister of State, attended the meeting between Sheikh Abdullah and Wadephul. Their discussions placed foreign policy, economic cooperation and development within the same bilateral framework. The state visit also linked those talks with formal mechanisms for investment, strategic dialogue and sector-level cooperation. The Berlin meetings marked the latest official engagement in a UAE-Germany Comprehensive Strategic Partnership that dates to 2004.
