CAIRO / RankWire.AI / – Egypt’s net international reserves rose to a provisional $55.0723 billion at the end of June 2026. The total crossed $55 billion for the first time and set a new record. The Central Bank of Egypt released the figure on July 8. Reserves increased from $53.1342 billion at the end of May. The monthly gain reached about $1.94 billion, or roughly 3.6%, and was the largest increase during the first half.

Egypt recorded six consecutive monthly increases in net international reserves.

The reserve total ended December 2025 at $51.4516 billion. It then climbed to $52.5938 billion in January and $52.7455 billion in February. March closed at $52.8306 billion, while April ended at $53.0092 billion. May’s total reached $53.1342 billion before the sharper June increase. Official monthly data show that Egypt’s foreign reserves rose during every month of the first half of 2026.

Compared with December, June reserves increased by about $3.62 billion, or just over 7%. In January, the central bank said reserves covered about 6.3 months of merchandise imports. The June announcement did not provide an updated import coverage ratio. It also did not identify the sources behind the monthly increase. The bank labeled the June figure provisional and reported it in millions of US dollars.

Separate central bank data showed remittances reached $39.2 billion from July 2025 through April 2026. That marked a 33.2% increase from $29.4 billion in the comparable ten-month period. April remittances alone reached about $4.3 billion. The monthly total rose 44% from roughly $3 billion in April 2025. The published releases did not directly connect those remittance figures with the June increase in Egypt’s net international reserves.

Egypt’s current account deficit reached $5.1 billion during the January-March 2026 quarter. It stood at $2.3 billion during the same period a year earlier. Higher remittances, tourism revenue and Suez Canal receipts offset part of a wider merchandise trade deficit. Net foreign direct investment inflows totaled $3.7 billion, compared with $3.8 billion a year earlier. Those external account figures do not provide a component-level explanation for the June reserve increase.

External accounts frame the record level

The International Monetary Fund and Egyptian authorities reached a staff-level agreement on the country’s seventh program review on June 29. The agreement also covered the second review under the Resilience and Sustainability Facility. Fund staff said gross international reserves remained broadly stable at the end of March. The June net reserve figure appeared after those review discussions. It represents the latest confirmed monthly reading issued by Egypt’s monetary authority.

June closed the first half with reserves above every earlier monthly level reported by the Central Bank of Egypt. The $55.0723 billion total exceeded May by nearly $2 billion. It also stood more than $3.6 billion above the December 2025 level. Official data show gradual monthly gains before the larger June advance. The central bank provided no cause for the increase, leaving the record reserve figure as the announcement’s central confirmed development.
