King Abdullah arrived in Abu Dhabi with Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II and Prime Minister Jafar Hassan. Sheikh Mohamed welcomed the Jordanian monarch upon his arrival. Senior UAE officials also attended the talks, including Vice President Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Economic partnership expands UAE-Jordan cooperation
The Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement provides the main framework for deeper economic cooperation between the UAE and Jordan. The countries signed the agreement on October 6, 2024, and it took effect on May 15, 2025. It became the UAE’s first comprehensive economic partnership agreement with an Arab country. The accord maintains trade liberalization covering more than 98% of tariff lines. It also covers services, investment, digital trade, customs cooperation and support for small and medium-sized businesses.
The agreement also provides preferential treatment for goods that meet applicable rules of origin and technical requirements. It covers more than 99.5% of the value of UAE goods exported to Jordan. The framework includes mechanisms designed to facilitate customs procedures and strengthen investment cooperation. It also establishes committees and designated focal points to oversee implementation. Sheikh Mohamed and King Abdullah highlighted economic, trade and development cooperation as key areas for further strengthening UAE-Jordan relations.
Regional security and stability remain central
Regional developments formed another major part of the Abu Dhabi talks. Sheikh Mohamed and King Abdullah exchanged views on issues affecting the Middle East and wider regional stability. Both leaders emphasized the importance of continued coordination between the UAE and Jordan. They linked that coordination to efforts aimed at reinforcing security and stability across the region.
